    Dougies Diary

    Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

    Hi Folks
I know you cannot possibly believe your eyes but this is another installment of Dougie´s Diary!! I supposed it’s like waiting for a bus, no bus for ages then three come at once.
Anyway, after I returned home from my unsuccessful roller skating challenge around Outer Mongolia, (food not the best! Upset stomach & stuck in a bin!!) The team decided to have a day out golfing. So last Monday we all headed down to the par three course in Los Palos.
After half an hour of practice on the driving range, we split into three teams of three. Justine, Clare and I, Jeff, Donna &Linda and Kevin, Michele & Trina.
Kev´s team had to tee off first, so true to form Kev stepped up, looking all professional and spectacularly topped the ball all of ten meters down the fairway. We all burst out laughing as Kev looked on with dismay as Trina and Michele launched their shots right down the first fairway!!
Next up me and the girls and after my pathetic tee shot both Clare and Justine out drove me! Then Jeff brought out his secret weapon! His over sized driver, this thing is a beast and he whacked the ball into next week!
So, nine holes later! Which team is going to be victorious? Well I have to say with great regret that Jeff, Donna & Linda absolutely hammered us all by ten shots!! I promise you, you do not want to lose against Jeff as he will remind you of it forever and ever….

So, after the award ceremony we headed off to the Piccolo Pizza restaurant in Los Cristianos, where Karin joined us after dropping her sis off at the airport. What a fantastic meal we devoured! With just a splash of wine!! Jeff re-lived every shot with his victorious team and lapped up all the glory. We are already in the process of a re-match. What a brilliant day out! We have an absolutely great team spirit here and it’s a great pleasure to work with so many amazing, giving people. We have a top team, at the world’s best Resort with the best Owners. Let the good times roll!!

So with all this sport in the air, Ricardo our General Manager, persuaded me to join his rugby union team for a seven-a-side competition in La Laguna! The fact that I have not touched a rugby ball for three and half years, am no way near match fit, cannot speak Spanish in a team full of South Americans and don’t know what the hell a ruck and maul are? Not got a clue of the rules, and playing at altitude in ninety degrees of blazing sunshine did not put me off at all.
So, the big day arrived! My first piece of action came when I replaced Ricardo for the second half in the first game, all of a sudden my legs turned to lead as I ran on! I don’t know if the jangly nerves, the heat or the altitude were to blame, but probably a mixture of all three! La Laguna University kicked off in my general direction, but luckily I caught the ball and then the adrenalin kicked in as I side-stepped the first guy, dummied the next two guys, ran sixty meters and dived in under the post!!!
Hang on a minute! That’s how I had pictured it in my mind. The reality was I got tackled and held on to the ball in true rugby league style and got flattened as well as penalized!!!
But not to worry, as we ran out quite comfortable winners! It was great to be back out on the field, my lungs just about held on. We played another three games which we also won so were crowned 2007 champions! Ricardo and I are by far the oldest players in the team, but I must tell you what a good player he is, full respect to him.
As you can see from the picture I am holding an ice cold bottle of Dorada beer, and I tell you now, a beer after running around in ninety degrees of heat at altitude is the best beer in the world, forget your Carlsberg at seven euros a pint that I have just sampled in the gorgeous city of Dublin!

So my friends, that’s it for now, I am still getting over the shock of flying me and Ana-Maria all the way to Dublin to see a Mr. G. Michael in concert, only for him to cancel the gig!!! We did the Guinness tour at the storehouse instead, which is a fantastic experience, so that more than made up for the loss. I am now a converted Guinness drinker!

So, see you all soon guys. Check out our Owner promotional specials that are going on and keep sending us all your friends and family, to the best Resort on the planet!

    Many thanks.

    Dougie
