Fiesta night……

Last Tuesday Ana-Maria and I were lucky enough to catch the crescendo of the week long fiestas that engulfed the village of Alcala (20 min.s drive towards Los Gigantes.)

The purpose of the fiesta is to honor their patron saint “Our lady of Candelaria”, who, incidentally is also the Saint of the Canary Islands.

Although primarily a religious fiesta, the emphasis is very much an eating, drinking and dancing, all night long affair (two out of three of which I am very good at!)  Live bands mix a combination of Salsa and Latino rhythm which has the whole town partying in the village square.

The grand finale of the fiesta takes place on 15^th August; this is when thousands of people converge on the harbour of Alcalà to witness their world famous fire work display. This boasts over thirty minutes of every conceivable color and shape illuminating the night sky, this year they even re created lava erupting from the rocks out to sea – amazing!!

After the display we headed back to the main square to sample the live music.

No visit to Alcalà Fiesta would be complete without sampling a hot dog from the “Perros Calientes” stall, where you can witness the fastest hot dog maker in the west! Really, he must make about 12 hot dogs a minute all night long!! Funny, it reminded me of the fish filleters in Hull. Ha ha…

Eventually with Salsa music still ringing in our ears we headed for home. The Canarian locals, ever party lovers, were still converging in the square and would remain to see the fiesta through until morning.

It is with much regret that we have to say farewell to Murray and Jocelyn, who after many happy years at Pearly Grey are moving on to pastures new. The Management and staff wish them and their family all the best in their new venture and for their new life in the UK. Murray and Jocelyn have written a letter explaining the story behind their departure from these shores, and this can now be found below, on the PG Blog.

We are, however, delighted to welcome Justine and Doug, who many of you will already know from their time on the Sales Team, and who will now be performing the dual role as Sales Managers previously carried out so well by Murray and Jocelyn. Doug and Justine have both written a little introductory piece about themselves, which you will also find below on the PG Blog. As they are both enthusiastic and passionate about the Pearly Grey way and the delivery of our product in an honest and open manner, we are confident that they will both do an excellent job in their new roles and we wish them every success. 

The rest of the PG Sales Team that you have come to know and love are staying put, and will be joined shortly by three new members, two of whom are existing Pearly Grey Owners! As a result of the exciting changes taking place at Pearly Grey, James and Karen intend to spend more time over here in Tenerife next year, and are planning to re-organise their personal lives a little, to make this possible.

It is with great regret that we inform you of our decision to leave Pearly Grey.

We would like to say a big “thank you” to all our loyal Owners and all of the PG Staff for an excellent 6 years.We truly have met some amazing people and believe we have helped you all into a fantastic product, backed by a wonderful team and support network.

We congratulate Doug and Justine on their in-house promotion and hope that you will give them the support that you certainly gave to us when we were starting up.

Our decision to move on is purely for family reasons. Ryan, our eldest son, has reached high-school age and needs to be in a different school environment. We have decided to try out the U.K. for a year- “Are you mad??” is the comment on everyone’s lips!

Tenerife and Pearly Grey have been good to us and we will really miss all of you fantastic people. We will always stay in touch with PG and hopefully will see some of you from time to time, as we are sure we will need some sun ourselves every now and then. (Ha!Ha!) We are here until September and will hopefully get to see or speak to lots of you before then.

Thank you to everyone for their unbelievable support and we know that Pearly Grey will rise to new heights with all of the forward moving work and new projects that are happening. PG is looking its best ever and we are leaving a great team behind to continue to make Pearly Grey the “special place” that it is.
